Dare to Seek Out New Challenges

Tweet This Post

More feedback about this "Doing What Scares You" stuff.

I received a follow up letter from Beth Blair. Remember, she's the one who gave her icebreaker at a Toastmaster's club (1st speech) recently.

"It makes me think, what else can I do well? As I think about it, I realize there is a good chance there is plenty more out there and there are three main reasons I have not attempted to find them (whatever "they" are):

A. I don't believe I can
B. Someone told me I can't and I believed them
C. It never occurred to me to try

I feel like it's time to reassess my life and figure out what direction I'm supposed to go. This is such an exciting time!"

Beth, you've given me much to think about. Thanks for sharing. Would love to hear comments from you about your fears or what you are trying new in 2009.

I've linked you to this video before. It's a good one. If you've never stopped long enough to view it, you'll be glad you did. This is a YouTube video of Libby Saunter, first female, walking the slackline in the picture above.

I am trying so many new things this year, I'm way past being scared anymore!

Many are 'under wraps' at the moment, but I have expanded my speaking engagements in a big way. Been a while since I spoke to a group over 1000, too...

All fear ties back to rejection in one way or another - I've learned if I just don't take rejection personal, then there's really nothing to fear!

I know I've said this before (ad nauseum, probably), but for the past nine years--yes, nine years--I've been doing a bold thing a day. (I can hardly believe it's been that long myself!)

I adhere to the philosophy, "change a habit, change a life." And making a daily habit of walking through fear is one of the most life-changing things a person can do.

Here's a link to the original blog post I wrote about this in Oct. of 2006 detailing the kinds of things that I think of as being bold:

For more thoughts and even tips about facing fears, "Happily Ever After Today" readers can also go to the index of my blog (on the sidebar) and scroll down to "Fears--Facing."

Anyway, Allyn, hope you're having a bold day!!

Thanks for your comments. All good stuff. And Prill, I am going to go check out your original post. As I said before, I remember you talking about this prior to the publishing of my first book, which would have been 2003 or so.

Ahhh, that "someone told me" thing. The power of suggestion. Thank goodness we are doing a better job with this generation of daughters.

To Prill:
Besides a bold thing a day (I have trouble finding too much I consider too bold these days), I try to do one good turn a day that no one will ever find out about--or find out who did it. This is an easy one to find one-a-day because there are so many elderly, poor and homeless in the world.
