Shoot for the Moon

Tweet This Post
I love this quotation by motivational speaker, Les Brown: “Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you'll land among the stars.”

I've used this quotation as a theme for presentations. I recently revisited Brown's words and others while preparing for a presentation I will doing this weekend at the Girl Scout sponsored Teens and Tweens Conference in Edmond, OK.

Here are a few good ones I've heard or read over the years:

1. There are always things you can do to improve your life and your circumstances. Always.

2. Author Richard Carlson tells us: Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff…because it’s all small stuff.

3. Not everyone will like you.

4. Somebody will always be prettier and smarter than you.

5 The greatest gift you can give yourself is to discover your talents, gifts and strengths and then, polish them.

I'll end with another favorite by Shad Helmstetter. "It isn’t the big choices we make that have the greatest impact on our lives; it’s usually the smallest choices we make that affect us the most."

Love all these quotes, Allyn. The "not everyone will like you" one reminded me of some lines commonly attributed to John Gardner, whom I happened to blog about yesterday: “No matter how hard you try to please others, some people in this world are not going to love you— a lesson that is at first troubling and then really quite relaxing.”

And speaking of Les Brown, I saw him in action this past August at the Nat'l Speakers Convention in NYC. He's a huge-hearted guy. Truly amazing.

I love these quotes! I need to fill the bulletin board over my desk with some of these. I really like number one - it's so true. :)

One of the hardest lessons I had to learn, Prill, was the "not everyone will like you lesson." I'm now in the "relaxing" phase, but it took me many years to get there. Hmmmmm. I'm sounded like a late bloomer again!

I would have loved to have seen Les Brown in action. His words have inspired many.

I do love those little sayings. Some I keep having to remember:

You can tell what people value by what they pay attention to.

Many of us pray for relief when we would be better off asking for strength.

and one from you I love when things don't seem to be going my way: Saddle up and ride.

Allyn, I just like the idea of gifting yourself. Too often we (especially we women) get so involved indoing for others we forget that we need to feed our own souls. We should do it just for the joy in doing it but it's a start if we do it because we know we're not much good for others if we don't.

I really love all the quotes especially the "Shoot for the Moon"- that would make a great t-shirt design. I also like the saying "Do what excites you"! As we get older, we really search for and see what matters the most in our lives.
